Fulfillment of Ezekiel’s Prophecy Regarding the Dead Sea?

With the headline “Incredible Evidence of Dead Sea Coming to Life as Foretold in Ezekiel 47:9,” Golan Heights resident and freelance journalist Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz really got readers’ attention.

The article, which was run by Breaking Israel News, actually begins with a quote from the Prophet Zechariah:

And it shall come to pass in that day that living waters shall go out from Yerushalayim: half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in summer and in winter shall it be. Zechariah 14:8 (The Israel Bible™)

Berkowitz quoted from The Israel Bible™ which is the brainchild of Rabbi Tuly Weisz; a Columbus, Ohio native Orthodox rabbi. Heading up the Israel365 website, Weisz who is now residing in Israel, promotes the Land of Israel and its spiritual significance by sending out a daily photograph with an accompanying Bible verse and other Orthodox Judaism content to email subscribers. Weisz, the editor of The Israel Bible™, is also publisher of Breaking Israel News where he lays down very strict guidelines directed at Christians:

Breaking Israel News offers news from Israel from an Orthodox Jewish perspective to both Jewish and Christian readers. We encourage open dialogue and welcome respectful questions. However, since we are an Orthodox Jewish site, our content is meant to stay focused on our shared heritage of the Hebrew Bible, and not Christian Scripture.

We ask that our readers follow these guidelines when commenting on our site:

  • Comments must be respectful and non-offensive.
  • Comments must not proselytize in any way.
  • Comments should stay focused on the Hebrew Bible and not refer to Christian Scripture.

Any comments that do not comply with these guidelines may be removed from the site. Repeated violations of the guidelines could result in users being banned from commenting.

Nevertheless, in addition to Religious Jews in America, a larger percentage of Breaking Israel News’ audience are Evangelical Christians, particular those with an interest in End-Time prophecies. It goes without saying then why the Berkowitz story appealed to the masses; and after being widely read by their readers was subsequently shared on social media platforms with much excitement.

The well-written, yet debatably, sensational article quotes other Breaking Israel News articles and The Israel Bible™ scriptures regarding the Dead Sea; its history, its present and future referencing Genesis 13:10 with Lot, Sodom and Gomorrah and then Ezekiel 47:8-9 and Zechariah 14:8. Berkowitz gives a description of the Dead Sea and its uninhabitable environment and then states that scientific research has proved the existence of life at the bottom of the Dead Sea. He follows it up with the declaration that a young woman on a hike has discovered freshwater pools with living fish on the shores of the Dead Sea where scientist and other experts have not.

The woman is Samantha Siegel, a Chicago native who now lives in Jerusalem. Trained under naturopath and health guru, Shoshanna Harrari, Siegel made what she calls a documentary video showing fresh water with living fish. No exact location of the pools is given in relation to proximity of the Dead Sea. The 2:53 minute clip contains spiritual references and New Age, ethereal symbolism. Siegel is the founder of Rustic Regal and has contributed to Breaking Israel News before.

Berkowitz echoes Siegel by saying that the fish are a sign of a fulfillment of what is written in the Book of Prophets. It appears that they disregard the literal reading of the scriptures. Zechariah says that living waters will flow from Jerusalem when the Mount of Olives splits in two and the stars turn dark. Ezekiel says that a river of life will flow from the Temple when it is built. It shouldn’t be necessary to state the obvious, but these phenomena are yet to occur. Is the desire to see the prophecies come to pass putting the cart before the proverbial horse?

It is recommended to exercise caution and take all scripture into account when presented with information, evidence or alleged proof that may very well be God’s Word being fulfilled.
