Half Way Through: Update from Pastor Santoro

Editor’s note: On June 30, 2016, KNI posted Pastor Santoro’s Health Update, in which he shared about the discovery of a second cancer occurence.

Psalm 34:19 declares that “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all”. How true this statement has been in our life. It was exactly one year ago on August 8th that I was diagnosed with brain cancer and as you probably know, several months ago I was diagnosed with a second and separate case of cancer in my tonsil and lymph node. According to what we felt in the Lord, we decided to follow the traditional medical treatments in conjunction with rivers of prayer and faith.

I am currently undergoing weekly bio-chemo transfusions and daily radiation treatments. As promised by the doctors, the condition of my throat has been going down since the second week of the radiation. I am currently enduring significant pain in my throat, tongue and mouth.

This past week when I asked our radiologist about the increasing pain, he assured us that the next month would be “hell”. After grappling with those words for a short while, we were encouraged when we remembered that Yeshua defeated both hell and the grave! No matter how difficult the trial, we are confident that God is working all things to the good.

As the current battle we are engaged in has intensified, both the depth of our need for Him, our closeness to Him and our love of Yeshua has only increased. We know and are experiencing his presence, his provision and his deep compassion and love for us more than ever before.

We are certain that the end of the matter will be health and complete freedom from all cancer.

I have finished 19 treatments and there are only 13 more to go, with the last one on August 30. No matter how I feel, each trip to the hospital is transformed into an amazing time as we share the love and power of God with the people we meet. We continue to pray for many and are exuding His love to all those who are open to speaking with us.

We thank you for your ongoing prayers for us. They are having a powerful impact as we face each challenging day. Here are a few specific needs:

  • Pray that I can endure the intense and increasing pain in my throat and mouth by his grace and in his mercy.
  • Pray for my ability to eat. My weight is down a bit and I am finding it ever more difficult to eat. Pray that God would give us wisdom as to the right way to approach this challenge.
  • Agree with us for complete healing of all cancer in my body. Join us in “choosing life!”
  • Pray for strength for Jackie. She is an amazing servant and loving wife. As we walk through this illness together, the burden on her is immense.
  • Keep praying for our congregation, Ahavat Yeshua. I have not missed any meetings up to now but have not able to share in a big way. Pray for the young leaders that are doing an increasingly wonderful job of leading and overseeing the congregation under our covering. We believe that God’s future is unfolding before us.

The amazing love and support we have been receiving, not only from you but from the many members of our congregation has been overwhelming. This manifestation of God’s love has encouraged our hearts and strengthened us in a supernatural way. So many are providing us with meals, prayers and oceans of love. Most every day someone comes to visit us.

In every way we are seeing the true expression of the Body of Messiah in our lives and it is “beyond!” How good is his Body when his people are filled to overflowing with his love.

We are forever grateful to those brothers and sisters who live here and are giving us so much. We are also endlessly grateful to all of you who live far away but are standing with us during this huge battle in our lives. Praise God the finish line is in sight and His victory is ours. To Him be the glory forever and ever and ever.
