Hezbollah reported that an Israeli drone was downed by the Syrian army Monday night.
The reports, which surfaced in Syrian media from Hezbollah claimed that an Israeli drone was downed by the Syrian Army, the Syrian Defense Ministry confirming that a drone was downed by Syria’s air defense system.
The IDF refuted the reports, confirming on Tuesday morning that the drone fell in Syria and was not shot down.
The incident is one of several that have taken place since Thursday when Israel carried out airstrikes in Syria overnight targeting an attempted weapons convoy en route to Hezbollah, as well as weapons caches.
The Syrian army then targeted Israeli jets with anti-aircraft missiles. Israel’s Arrow Defense missile system was able to down one of the rockets.
According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit “Overnight IAF [Israeli Air Force] aircraft targeted several targets in Syria. Several anti-aircraft missiles were launched from Syria following the mission and IDF Aerial Defense Systems intercepted one of the missiles,” referring to the Arrow system.
On Monday, IDF officers reported that missile intercepted by the Arrow system had a 200-kilogram warhead.
And on Monday, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad stated in an interview that Russia has an important role in preventing a future confrontation with Israel.” His remarks came after Israel’s Ambassador to Russia, Gary Koren, was summoned by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov to explain Israeli airstrikes in Syria Friday.
Additionally on Monday, reports surfaced that Israel carried out additional strikes in the Qalamoun region in Syria close to the border with Hezbollah on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, Syrian and Lebanese media reported that a high-ranking militia commander in Assad’s regime, Yasser al-Sayed, was killed in a missile fired from a drone in the Quneitra region, reportedly from Israel.
