Iranian general visited Israel-Syria border

An Iranian general of the Basij Resistance Force visited the border of Syria and Israel recently, a report of his visit published on Wednesday by Iran’s Fars news agency. It is the first official report by Iran of an Iranian official visiting Syria near the border with Israel.

General Mohammad Reza Naghdi visited the Syrian town of Quneitra, the report not specifying when the visit occurred nor an official reason for his visit. The report featured a photo of Naghdi looking at the border with binoculars.

The Basij, known as the “people’s militia” is a volunteer-based paramilitary organization of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corp that deals with “internal security, law enforcement, special religious or political events and morals policing,” with “branches in virtually every city and town in Iran”. The organization claims over 10 million members.
