Earlier this month (November) the European Union voted to label goods produced in Israeli settlements. The BDS Movement has been receiving much attention and growing support. These events can give the impression that the world is turning against Israel, and while many parts are, there are some surprising opportunities for cooperation.
One initiative is the decision to open a diplomatic-level post for International Renewable Energy Agency in Abu Dhabi, the first representative office in the United Arab Emirates. While this does not mean indicate full diplomatic ties, it is a significant step towards cooperation between Israel and another Middle East country. Out of all of Israel’s neighbors in the Middle East, it currently maintains diplomatic relations with only Jordan and Egypt.
