Jesus said there’d be days like this

I am writing this blog as night falls on the first day of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. It was a difficult day for me, for many reasons. Of course, almost anyone living in Ukraine probably had a more difficult day than I did, and many other people all over the world have been having a lot of difficult days lately and are very worried about what the coming days will bring.

As I’m sure anyone who reads these blogs knows very well, Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine didn’t take God by surprise, any more than Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent evil and horrifying behavior, or the Chinese menacing of Taiwan, or any one of a dozen other developments all over the world which are producing negative ripple effects that have ordinary people like you and me upset, anxious and frightened.

We know God’s not surprised by any of this because Matthew 24: 3-8 says that;

And as Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will mislead many people. And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.

Brothers and sisters, this passage speaks to us in a way it has not spoken to any previous generation. We need to be paying attention and taking the appropriate actions in response.

I’ll say it plainly, because the time for anything else has passed.

Every single follower of Jesus Christ needs to be praying, fasting, reading the Bible and partaking in regular fellowship with other Believers on a DAILY basis.

We need to be sharing the Gospel with anyone we can. We need to be praying for our pastoral leadership, our elected leadership, the leadership of our childrens’ schools, the leadership of our communities and “all those in authority” including those we didn’t vote for and who we maybe even hope lose the next election.

We need to be in prayer for our families and our congregations. We need to be investing whatever time, effort, money, energy and devotion we have into doing whatever God has called us to do.

There are large numbers of Jewish people who are considering the idea of making Aliyah to Israel. Help them if you can.

The State of Israel needs to do many things in order to be ready to absorb the large numbers of new immigrants who will soon be making their way here. Help this country if you can.

The Body of Messiah in Israel is growing rapidly and is on the move. Help us if you can.

The time for timidity is over. The time for saving something for a rainy day is over. The rainy day is here. It’s not going to stop raining until Jesus comes back, which will happen very soon.

Whatever you’ve been saving up, now’s the time to sew it into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. If that means coming to Israel to work in this vineyard, don’t let anything stop you from doing that. If it means staying where you are and assisting the pastor of the fellowship you attend, don’t let anything stop you from doing that. If it means devoting more time to mentoring and discipling your own children and maybe their little friends, definitely don’t let anything stop you from doing that.

Brothers and sisters…

This is it!

Jesus said there’d be days like this and He told us what to do when they came.

Let’s get it done!
