Nasrallah criticizes Saudi Arabia for “normalizing relations and acknowledging the existence of Israel”

Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah criticized Saudi Arabia for “normalizing relations” and “acknowledging the existence of Israel” during a televised address Friday evening.

His remarks come following a meeting between Israel’s Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold with former Saudi Arabian general Anwar Eshki in Jerusalem on Sunday and following the 27th Arab League Summit in Nouakchott, where the Palestinian Authority warned “Arab states of the concept of regional cooperation and security which is aimed at creating regional security cooperation between Arab countries and Israel and normalizing relations before the end of the Israeli occupation.”

Nasrallah stated that “We [Arab states] are currently in the worst official state the Arab League has known in the last hundred years. There are in fact no nations, countries, Arab League or national Arab security,” placing blame on Saudi Arabia as it “has taken advantage of the ailing Arab situation, only to build relations with Israel. The price will be at the account of the Palestinians.”

He claimed that Saudi Arabia is “creating contact [with Israel], normalizing relations, acknowledging the existence of Israel – and then cooperating with it,” claiming that “this is free normalization with Israel and this will open the doors to other states than Saudi Arabia to follow suit.”

He added that “Based on the Arab League’s summit meetings, these days Israel is no longer officially considered the Arab League’s enemy, while Palestine has become an obligatory burden… Saudi Arabia continues its regional wars and refuses contact with Yemen, Syria, and Bahrain. Its initiatives are only made towards Israel, and for free,” calling on Saudi Arabia to “not condescend and do not let hatred blind you. Be a partner in the effort to find a regional solution.”

He warned that “We will be before a cultural disaster that allows Saudi Arabia to make peace with Israel. And this is the most dangerous thing that could happen. Everybody must now take a clear position,” stating that “The only option for the Palestinians is the way of the Shahid [Islamic martyrdom].”
