On modern prophets and prophecies

The fear of YHVH is the beginning of wisdom. – Proverbs 9:10

Truth is Expensive

In my almost 76 years I have vigorously trained myself to see clearly, to discern between the real and the unreal, the true and the false. It is my profession as an artist, poet, writer and student of the Bible to do so, and in my profession the G-d-given imagination, sometimes inspired and influenced by the Spirit of G-d, has always been my workshop with which I am very familiar. In my 43 years serving Heaven I have carefully observed, listened to and seen a parade of ‘prophets’ march through Jerusalem with their ‘burdens,’ and sadly have found that many believers, especially among ‘charismatics,’ unfortunately do not know well enough the difference between their own imaginations and the voice and visions of the Spirit of G-d. Much that is spoken is subjective mind-suggestion, wishful thinking, emotional crowd dynamics, superstition, and at worst, the grave sin of false prophecy in the Name of G-d in vain. I’ve observed the “Y2K” debacle, “88 reasons the rapture will happen in 1988,” the “fire falling upon Jerusalem at Shavuot ‘88”, “the soon coming Russian invasion of Israel” in the 1980’s, Wilkerson’s immanent fall of the US economy through default in the 90’s, the spring Syrian tank invasion and destruction of Israel and “the blood flowing as high as the horse’s bridles by the time the mud dries on the Golan” back in the ‘80’s, the immanent destruction of Tel Aviv prophesied for Hanukkah some 10 years ago, the ”Blood Moons,” the false prophecies about the recent US presidential election, the many divine ‘healings’ that ended in continued illness and even death, a new movement of non-Jewish individuals with no related history whatsoever suddenly seduced into believing they are of the ‘lost tribes of Israel’, and many other presumptuous and speculative “words” spoken- with impunity.*

YHVH has told us: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith YHVH. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” I believe Him. In our youth of our generation we hadn’t a clue just how high the Heavens are above the Earth, until modern astronomy and the Hubble telescope has revealed their stunning immensity. And so I will stick with and be satisfied with the true Prophets in the Bible, thanks. May G-d grant us all discernment in these very deceptive and treacherous times, and settle for nothing less than the authentic and real thing.

*“I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ “How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart, who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal? “The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?” declares the LORD. “Is not My word like fire?” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock? “Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the LORD, “who steal My words from each other. “Behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the LORD, “who use their tongues and declare, ‘The Lord declares.’ “Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams,” declares the LORD, “and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit,” declares the LORD.’ (Jeremiah 23:25-32)
