Saving One Baby at a Time

“As the time drew near for God to fulfill His promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased. Then ‘a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.’ He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die. At that time, Moses was born and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for by his family. When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.” (Acts 7: 17-22)

Just as the Egyptian ruler dictated, an evil government will “enable” people to throw away their babies. When a government justifies and simplifies the “termination of pregnancy”, women in crisis are told they are being “practical” and that they are “making the right choice” to abort their child. Our society has created an illogical premise – that taking the life of a child is better than allowing him to live, even if that means certain hardships. God is calling for more people who are ready to save, supply and sponsor these babies. Pharoah’s daughter acted with great mercy and rescued a discarded child. Not only did she care for him, but she gave him a quality upbringing.

Be’ad Chaim began a project called “Operation Moses” in 2006, and has since helped to rescue over 800 babies who may have been “thrown out” or certainly would not have had many of their essential needs met. “Operation Moses” provides each family with a bed, stroller, bath and a set of bed sheets at birth and monthly provision of baby items such as diapers and formula for a year. I thank God for the opportunity that we have, at Be’ad Chaim, to help save the children who would have otherwise been discarded, and to provide for their needs so that they can have a quality beginning.

Here is a Thank You note written by a mother of twins enrolled in “Operation Moses” last year:

There are miracles and there are wonders.
Trying hard can bring results
And in us, you have reason to be proud.
How happy we are that we happened to find you;
You knew just how to welcome us, and support us in every situation
With winning smiles, sincere and warm.
You were able to truly see and show me the children within.
You are all deserving of my wholehearted thanks
For all that you’ve given to my children in your love, tested and true.
Thank you for your help, for being there and for pushing us to succeed,
For giving us the strength to see this story to its conclusion.
Thanks for taking the time to be our friends and for letting us get to know you;
For your faithful work that never ends, that you don’t do just “by the book”
You gave my children above and beyond what was expected;
And an abundance of smiling looks and serious explanations
That gave relief in times of distress and crisis.
Thank you, and again thank you, for your help in bringing our children forth.
Thank you that the welfare of the child is the apple of your eye.
