Some Thoughts on Heavenly Signs

There is, by one count I found online, 53 different passages in the Bible which make reference to “signs in the heavenly place” with several of those passages giving a prophetic vision for the time just before the Second Advent of Jesus Christ.

Perhaps the most well-known of these passages are Acts 2: 19-20, which says “And I will grant wonders in the sky above and signs on the Earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The Sun will be turned into darkness and the Moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.”

Another very well known passage regarding signs in the heavenly places is Revelation 8:8 which says “The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood”

With all the other disasters which have befallen the human race in 2020, something has been happening which hasn’t gotten much attention yet. It is an above-average number of “shooting stars” which are actually small meteors which enter and are burnt up in the atmosphere of this planet, producing a bright fireball which is visible for many kilometers, especially if it happens at night. These fireballs have been seen in the skies above dozens of countries all over the world in 2020, more frequently than what occurs in a typical year.

In addition to that, astronomers inform us that there have been an above-average number of larger meteors which have passed by us at uncomfortably close (by cosmic standards) distances over the past year. These same astronomers also tell us that there is a possibility (it’s impossible to know for certain) that these phenomena indicate that our planet could be passing through a large cloud of space debris and that we are just now seeing the outer edge of it. If this is the case, then there will be even more fireballs in the sky and eventually there is a very real possibility that one of them will be big enough so that it won’t completely burn up in the atmosphere, meaning it will be big enough when it hits the surface to cause a major problem for all of us living here. This could very well be the fulfilment of Revelation 8:8.

In any case, these “signs in the heavenly places” are indeed taking place at the present time, and it is yet another reason for us to be aware of the season of prophetic history we’re in. If you needed another reason to get serious about daily prayer, Bible reading and being in regular fellowship with your fellow Believers, here it is.

Brothers and sisters, the observable evidence is mounting that time is rapidly approaching for our Lord to return to this Earth. May God give us all the wisdom, strength, clarity and courage to be about His business.
