Waiting for the Promised Savior

253

For how long had human beings in general, and the Jewish people in particular, waited for the chosen one of God the Creator to come to deliver the world from evil? Some of the passages in the Tanach/OT which may have been interpreted as Messiah’s “only coming”, actually look beyond His first coming to His second coming.

Here is a selection among many verses and passages of Scripture giving a patient and hopeful look of faith in the truth of God’s Word:

Jn 1:19-27  when Yeshua was about 30 yrs old, about 1996 yrs ago (26AD)

Lk 2:25-38  at Yeshua’s birth about 2026 yrs ago (5BC)

1Pt 1:10-12  angels and prophets inquiring when these things might be; written about 1969 yrs ago, from ages back

Dan 9:24-25  a timeline for the Messiah’s first coming, written about 2500 yrs ago, about 500 years before He came

Mic 5:2 (5:1 Heb)  the ruler to be born in Bethlehem of Judah/Judea; written about 2700 yrs ago, about 700 years before His birth

Is 9:6-7  unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given – the Mighty God, the Son of God,  the King of the Jews/Israel — to redeem Israel, and to reign on David’s throne; written about 2700 yrs ago, about 700 years before His birth

Ps 2  YHVH has set His King on His holy hill of Zion; written about 3160 yrs ago, about 1040 years before the King was born

Dt 18:15-19  promise of a prophet like Moses, to whom God will require us to listen; written about 3440 yrs ago, about 1465 years before He began His public ministry

Gen 3:14-15  promise of the Seed of the woman who would crush the serpent’s seed, delivering people from evil; given about 6000 yrs ago, about 4030 years before Yeshua’s/Jesus’ death on the cross to defeat the Devil, death, and hell

Jn 1:43-51  they found Him of whom Moses and the Prophets wrote; written about 1996 yrs ago

For how long have believers in Jesus/Yeshua looked for the second coming of the Lord?

Mt 24:29-44  the promise of the Savior’s return in the generation that sees the restoration of national Israel, which we see in our day since 1948; written about 1992 yrs ago

Acts 3:17-24  He is in Heaven until the time of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began; written 1992 yrs ago (30AD)

1Thes 1:9-10  You have turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come; written about 1970 yrs ago

Rev 1:7  Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him.  And all the tribes of the Earth will mourn because of Him.  Even so, amen; written about 1932 yrs ago.

Many false prophets and false messiahs around the time of Yeshua’s birth, because the time was near for the real and true Messiah to come, and the devil was out to confuse and to deceive the people.  There was a hopeful expectation of the promised Messiah and Savior.  Do we have a hopeful expectation for His return, when those who are His at His coming will also be delivered from evil within us?  There are more and more false prophets and false messiahs being heard of today, because the time is near for the same Yeshua, who died and rose again, and who ascended back to His glory in Heaven, for this same Yeshua/Jesus to return to restore the Kingdom of God to Israel and over the nations of the whole Earth. (Acts 1:9-11)

God bless you as celebrate the Creator who came into His world to redeem everyone, and to save those who repent and believe in His name.
