WATCH: Football in Israel Helps Future IDF Soldiers

The Associated Press reported today that American style tackle football has gained ground in Israel thanks to live NFL broadcasts. The expanding Israel Football League has hired Itay Ashkenazi, a former IDF Special Forces Commando as coach. He said that most of the players who join have never played football before and know nothing about it. They see football in Israel as a good training ground for future military service because many of the values taught in football – teamwork, hard training, toughness – are the same values taught in the IDF.

Right now the football fields are converted soccer fields, only 60 yards long, and there are only nine players on each team, but the spirit of the game shines through.

Will we ever see an Israeli play in the NFL? Why not? Miracles are always possible in a nation known for miracles. Look at the miracle of the rebirth of the State of Israel in 1948:

Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this?
Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children
. Isaiah 66:8 (NIV)
