“For who has despised the day of small things?” – Zechariah 4:10
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
I’ve sometimes wondered that what if I had Iived as who I am and where I am now as a Jew back in the 7th century AD, and had providentially come across a camel train led by a somewhat confused but sincerely searching young Arab man named Muhammad, and I had stopped him and drank tea with him and taught him well of the things I know of G-d today, and he had come to know the Messiah, I might have changed the entire future history of the world- probably for the better. Alas, who knows? The same goes for what if Adam had rebuked his wife rather than going along with her folly, or Abraham had not heeded his old wife Sarah’s advice to go lay with the young woman in the next tent so that they could have a baby- and thus Ishmael had never been born- and so too Muhammad and Usama bin Laden? That is the beauty of that brilliant Jewish filmmaker Spielberg and his marvelous “Back to the Future” film series. And with that same thought, I tread the present with thoughts of the future, and the people who happen to cross my path…and perhaps your path too.
